Eliana Quartarone, Associate Professor

Dr. Eliana Quartarone received her degree in Chemistry in 1994 and a PhD in Chemical Science in 1999. From 1999 to 2007 she was a post-doc student initially at the IENI-CNR and then at Department of Physical Chemistry of the University of Pavia. From 2008 to 2014 she was an Assistant Professor researcher at the same Department. From 2015 she is an Associate Professor at the Dept. of Chemistry-Division of Physical Chemistry of the University of Pavia and lecturer in: i) Electrochemistry; Physical Chemistry of solid-state devices; iii) Advanced characterization techniques of materials; iv) Chemistry (at the Engineering Faculty). The research field of Dr.ssa Quartarone is focused on both polymer electrolytes and thin films deposition. In particular, she investigated four main classes of materials: i) liquid and polymer ion conducting systems, like ionic liquids and polymer electrolytes for application in lithium batteries; ii) proton exchange polymer electrolytes, based on polybenzimidazole-based membranes for high-temperature fuel cells devices; iii) thin films based on mixed oxides, like V2O5, Lithium Titanate, SiO2, TiO2, and bioglasses, for application in microbatteries, optoelectronics, photocatalysis and tissue engineering; iv) functionalised carbon nanotubes and nanoparticles for nanomedicine. She actively cooperated at many research projects of the Department, working on the preparative aspects as well as the development of several characterization techniques. In particular she matured remarkably experience in the field of electric, electrochemical and morphological analysis, following the development of the impedance spectroscopy, d.c techniques and atomic force microscopy, respectively. She is author and co-author of more than 88 publications on international journals, 5 book chapters and many communications at both national and international conferences. She has an H-Index of 27 (Scopus) and her publications have been cited more than 2000 times. She was a component of various Research Units of the University of Pavia (UdR-UNIPV), CNR, INSTM, devoted to fundamental and applied research activities in the framework of both national and international Projects (Cariplo Projects, PRIN, FISR, FIRB, Bilateral Project with ONRI-Osaka (Japan), Astil Project Italy/Brazil Cooperation founded by Rgione Lombardia). All these projects were focused on Lithium Batteries, Polymer Fuel Cells, SOFCs and Nanomedicine. She is also the Scientific Coordinator of the UdR-UNIPV of the PRIN Project PRIN 2010: Advanced nanocomposite membranes and innovative electrocatalysts for long-durability PEMFCs, NAMED-PEM . She was also Scientific Responsible of the Projects “Morphological Analyses of enamel and dentine surfaces by AFM and SEM” (Coswell SpA) and “Study of the demineralization /reminalization processes of the human tooth enamel by means of AFM” (GC Europe N.V.). She has experiences as referee in several Journals, such as Advanced Energy Materials, Electrochimica Acta, Energy and Environmental Science, Journal of Power Sources, Advanced Functional Materials, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, Fuel Cells. She is an expert for the evaluation of projects in HORIZON 2020 calls. She was also involved in the peer reviews and evaluation of some projects funded by Italian Ministry of Research and University (PRIN projects –MIUR) and of PISCOPIA Fellowship Programme co-funded by Marie Curie Actions.
