Cristina Tealdi, Assistant Professor
Cristina is currently assistant professor (junior position) in the Department of Chemistry, University of Pavia. She graduated summa cum laude in Chemistry in 2002 and received her PhD in Chemistry – orientation Material Science - in 2006 (supervisor: Prof. Giorgio Flor). Student of the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia (IUSS) from 1998 to 2005, she also completed a course of postgraduate qualification in patents and trademarks at the University of Milano (2010-2011).
In 2008 she was awarded an “Alexander von Humboldt” fellowship to be conducted at the Technical University of Munich (DE). Since 2013 she is the national coordinator of a “FIRB-Futuro in Ricerca” project (funded by the Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research) related to proton conducting materials for fuel cells.
Her research focuses on materials for clean energy applications (fuel cells and batteries), with emphasis on the role of structure and defects in the modulation of functional properties. The approach is based on the combined application of computational and experimental techniques, which range from the preparation of the materials in the form of powders and films, their structural characterization, the application of thermal analysis and electrochemical techniques, to computational modelling. Skills related to preparation and structural characterization result from her PhD training at the University of Pavia and the involvement in numerous experiments at European and US synchrotron radiation facilities and neutron sources. As a post-doc visiting scientist, she has acquired and expanded her skills in electrochemical characterization at the Physic Department of the Technical University of Munich (DE) and in computational chemistry at the University of Surrey, Bristol and Bath (UK).
